96. Howe WHEELER
(13) was born on Dec 30 1777 in Prob. Plainfield,
CT. He died on Feb 18 1870 in Calais, VT. He was buried in Robinson Cem., Calais,
VT. A Royalton, VT doctor's book records five children born to Howe and
Amy (AMA) Wheeler. There are no names, only dates listed: 6/13/1814,
8/20/1815, 5/23/1816, 5/26/1817, 8/11/1823. It's known that Simon
Shepard was the son of Howe and Amy - His birth and death dates were
obtained from the gravestone in the Robinson Cemetary in Calais, VT.
An East Montpelier land transfer record establishes that Simon sold
land to his brother Elisha born 1/9/1809 in Royalton, VT. In examining
these dates it is certainly conceivable that they had several more
children. Dr. Joseph A. Denson was the Royalton doctor.
It's not known when Howe came to Calais, examination of land census
records might show. They lived in the western part of town, on the
Worcester road at one time. See Walling map of Washington County. Mark
Waite recalls their living in Woodbury, VT in 1860 (check 1860
The Gene book states they lived at one time near the Andy Scott farm
east of Adamant.
Their gravestone was "erected by B.P. Wheeler", this inscription
appears near the base of the stone.
